Dacast vs HOMER
A side-by-side editorial comparison of Dacast and HOMER — release velocity, themes, recent moves, and the top alternatives to consider.
Dacast vs HOMER: at a glance
What is Dacast?
Dacast's changelog is a streaming-education blog with no releases in it.
Dacast is a video streaming and OTT delivery platform, and every entry in the current window is editorial content: CDN and adaptive-bitrate guides for education, remote streaming without wired connectivity, sports OTT strategy, an IPTV versus OTT comparison, simulcast instructions, and a church streaming buyer's guide. All are bylined to the Dacast editorial team and reviewed by an executive, and none announce a product change.
What is HOMER?
HOMER 11.0.369 fixes S3 auth on Ceph-based storage and stops compaction memory growth.
HOMER's 11.0 line is still hardening its DuckDB tiered-storage layer. 11.0.368 retries incomplete tier moves and fixes tiered queries that missed lake tables. The 11.0.369 pre-release stops sending the AWS session token with static S3 keys, which broke Vultr/Ceph RGW, and keeps DuckDB's file cache off on write paths so compaction memory plateaus. Security fixes (bound tiered lookup parameters, hono bump) ride alongside.

Dacast's changelog is a streaming-education blog with no releases in it.
◆ Current state
Dacast is a video streaming and OTT delivery platform, and every entry in the current window is editorial content: CDN and adaptive-bitrate guides for education, remote streaming without wired connectivity, sports OTT strategy, an IPTV versus OTT comparison, simulcast instructions, and a church streaming buyer's guide. All are bylined to the Dacast editorial team and reviewed by an executive, and none announce a product change.
◆ Where it's heading
The consistent shape is vertical-by-vertical buyer education — education, sports, worship, remote production — each mapped to a use case Dacast sells into. That is a go-to-market pattern, not a product one, and the platform's actual development is not visible through this feed.
◆ Prediction
Expect more vertical guides on the same rotation, refreshed with a current year in the title. No prediction about the product itself is supportable from these entries.
HOMER
5.0MEETINGS
HOMER 11.0.369 fixes S3 auth on Ceph-based storage and stops compaction memory growth.
◆ Current state
HOMER's 11.0 line is still hardening its DuckDB tiered-storage layer. 11.0.368 retries incomplete tier moves and fixes tiered queries that missed lake tables. The 11.0.369 pre-release stops sending the AWS session token with static S3 keys, which broke Vultr/Ceph RGW, and keeps DuckDB's file cache off on write paths so compaction memory plateaus. Security fixes (bound tiered lookup parameters, hono bump) ride alongside.
◆ Where it's heading
Almost every release since early October fixes the parquet lake: compaction, cache behaviour, tiering and S3 compatibility. The storage rewrite is being shaken out in production on more varied object stores. Feature work, such as OTLP log events on the call ladder, has paused while this stabilises.
◆ Prediction
Expect 11.0.369 to be promoted from pre-release, followed by more storage fixes for non-AWS object stores before feature work picks up again.
