What is kwb.pkgbuild?

kwb.pkgbuild's CI templates went four years without a refresh, then had to be rebuilt for current runners

kwb.pkgbuild automates R package setup at Kompetenzzentrum Wasser Berlin to a house style, and its main deliverable is the GitHub Actions templates it installs into new packages. Between October 2022 and May 2026 there were no releases. During that gap the templates aged past the point of working on current GitHub-hosted runners.

What is nuggets?

nuggets keeps compounding on the 2.0 rewrite — more pattern families, lighter install.

nuggets searches for association rules, contrasts and other conditional patterns in the GUHA tradition, with a C++ core behind dig() and an interactive explore() app for reading results. Since the 2.0 rewrite of that core, every release has widened the same three surfaces: more pattern families to mine, more of explore() to inspect them in, and steady performance work underneath. The most recent tag optimises dig() on sparse crisp data with a sparse bit chain and adds clustering characteristics to explore() for association rules.

kwb.pkgbuild's CI templates went four years without a refresh, then had to be rebuilt for current runners

◆ Current state

kwb.pkgbuild automates R package setup at Kompetenzzentrum Wasser Berlin to a house style, and its main deliverable is the GitHub Actions templates it installs into new packages. Between October 2022 and May 2026 there were no releases. During that gap the templates aged past the point of working on current GitHub-hosted runners.

◆ Where it's heading

0.3.0 is a catch-up release rather than a direction change: action versions bumped to checkout@v5, upload-artifact@v4 and codecov-action@v5 to clear the Node.js 20 deprecation, deprecated r-lib/actions@master references replaced with @v2, the retired ubuntu-20.04 runner swapped for ubuntu-latest, and the archived r-hub/sysreqs step replaced with setup-r-dependencies@v2, which also brings dependency caching. One fix stands out: a stale conditional comparing runner.os to the string 'Linux (no, try without!)' had been silently disabling the Linux system-dependency step.

◆ Prediction

For a package whose product is CI configuration, releases will keep tracking GitHub Actions deprecations — the notes already cite the Node.js 20 removal date. The four-year gap suggests updates arrive when something breaks rather than on a schedule.

nuggets keeps compounding on the 2.0 rewrite — more pattern families, lighter install.

◆ Current state

nuggets searches for association rules, contrasts and other conditional patterns in the GUHA tradition, with a C++ core behind dig() and an interactive explore() app for reading results.

◆ Where it's heading

Two forces are shaping the package. One is coverage: baseline, complement and paired-baseline contrasts, correlations, tautologies, ancestors and clustering have all been added as first-class dig_ or explore_ surfaces, so the same search engine now answers a widening set of questions. The other is weight — Shiny packages moved from Imports to Suggests, BH and RcppThread dropped, XSIMD updated, parse_condition() rewritten in C++ — which keeps a package with an interactive app from forcing that app's dependencies on every user. Deprecations are handled through lifecycle rather than removed abruptly.

◆ Prediction

Expect the sparse-data optimisation to extend from crisp to fuzzy data, and explore() to keep gaining tabs as each new pattern family lands, on the roughly six-week cadence the 2.2 line has held.
