◆Current state
Libredesk, an open-source helpdesk, shipped v2.9.0 after ten release candidates that added a WhatsApp inbox, proactive chat, an in-widget help center, email aliases and cited AI replies. The first v2.9.1 candidate is a hardening pass: security audit fixes, dependency and Go updates, a database-aware health check, and immediate IMAP scanning on inbox start. It also answers customer messages that arrive while the AI is still replying and skips away agents in auto-assignment.
◆Where it's heading
With 2.9's channel expansion done, work has shifted to reliability around those features: AI conversation edge cases, assignment accuracy and email decoding. The project keeps using long RC series before each release.
◆Prediction
Expect a stable v2.9.1 after a few more candidates, then a 2.10 RC series. The entries don't show what 2.10 will add.

v2.9.1 RC1: security audit fixes, AI reply and assignment fixes

The first candidate after v2.9.0 is cleanup on the new features: security audit fixes, AI replies that no longer miss messages sent mid-response, and auto-assignment that skips away agents. Proactive widget messages and custom attribute links get small usability fixes.

v2.9 RC10: widget language control, quoted history in emails

rc.10 is polish rather than new channels: host pages can set or switch the widget language, outgoing emails can quote earlier messages, and replies to subject-less emails stop bouncing off strict SMTP servers. It reads like the 2.9 feature set is closing out.

v2.9 RC9: email aliases, AI reply citations, session hardening

Email aliases let one inbox receive mail at several addresses, and agents can choose which address a reply comes from. AI assistant replies now cite the help-center articles they draw on. Sessions now end on a password change or when an account is disabled, which closes a gap ahead of the stable v2.9.

v2.9 RC8: WhatsApp inbox, proactive chat, AI tools in copilot

This is the largest v2.9 drop: a WhatsApp Business inbox, proactive widget messages, a help center inside the widget, and custom AI tools in copilot that run only after agent approval. Memory now stays between 180 and 560 MB over a day on an instance with about 500 agents logged in, which matters for self-hosters.
