Open-source continuous localization and translation management platform

Weblate wires workspace teams to your identity provider, after making workspaces carry rules.

◆Current state
Weblate ships monthly 2026.x feature releases with point releases a week or so later. Since June the work has centered on Workspaces: grouping, then shared translation memory and metrics, then inherited checks and the Automation add-on in 2026.10. The 2026.10.1 point release adds opt-in team sync from identity providers, including GitLab group mapping.
◆Where it's heading
Weblate is moving from a per-component translation tool to an organization-level localization platform where policy, membership, and settings cascade from workspace to component. Identity-provider team sync is the access-control half of that: membership now follows the org directory instead of manual assignment. Each release also widens REST API parity, and AI stays a quality and editing layer around human translators.
◆Prediction
Expect team sync to extend beyond GitLab to other identity providers, and the Automation and AI quality add-ons to get follow-up triggers and API exposure in the next point releases.

Weblate 2026.10.1 syncs teams from identity providers

An opt-in sync now maps identity-provider groups, including GitLab groups, onto Weblate teams and can restrict login by group. It adds the membership layer to the workspace hierarchy, so permissions follow the org directory instead of manual admin work. Push-on-update and default notification settings round out the admin tooling.

Weblate 2026.10: Automation add-on, AI quality scoring, editable source keys

    ⚡ SPARK

This is the release where the workspace hierarchy built since June starts carrying rules: enforced checks and language-creation policies now cascade from workspace down to component. Paired with the Automation add-on and AI quality evaluation, it moves Weblate from storing translations to governing how they get produced.

Weblate 2026.9.1: notification diagnostics and editor search refresh

A maintenance point release that adds per-user notification diagnostics and better search recovery in the editor. It fits the ongoing pattern of making a growing permission and subscription model explainable to admins.

Weblate 2026.9: background repo maintenance and per-component VCS settings

Repository maintenance moves to background tasks and components gain their own VCS parameters, including PR automerge and migration to the GitHub App. This is the operational groundwork for running many components across a workspace without request timeouts.

Weblate 2026.8.1: full settings in REST API, local metrics command

Project and component APIs now expose every user-configurable setting, and a metrics command exports server stats as JSON, CSV, or OpenMetrics. It continues the push to make Weblate fully scriptable for teams managing it as infrastructure.

Weblate 2026.8: workspace translation memory and ASGI deployment

    ⚡ SPARK

2026.8 is a dense release: deep workspace expansion (aggregate stats, translation memory, archive downloads, search and replace), opt-in Granian ASGI deployment support, a REST API for suggestions, and background translation report generation. Together these represent a substantial capability step for teams running Weblate at scale.
