What is Manticore Search?

Manticore 31.0.7 undoes a 2x COUNT(DISTINCT) slowdown its own collation fix caused.

Manticore Search's 31.x tags so far are fixes rather than features. 31.0.3 and 31.0.4 were CI and packaging work; 31.0.7 restores string COUNT(DISTINCT) speed after the 29.18.5 collation fix made it 2x slower (1.1 s to 2.4 s on the logs10m benchmark) by calling tolower() per byte. A lookup table replaces the call without changing hash values, so secondary indexes and histograms stay compatible.

What is NATS?

NATS 2.15.2 closes auth-callout and leafnode ACL gaps on both supported lines.

NATS shipped 2.15.2 and 2.14.9 together on Oct 26, the first patches since 2.15.1 went final. Both carry the same fixes: auth callout now respects allowed connection types, leafnode ACLs no longer implicitly allow $MQTT.> permissions, OCSP responses are bound to the certificate serial, and restored v1 snapshots are bounds-checked. Both also move to Go builds that distrust eMudhra intermediates.

Manticore Search vs NATS: editorial side-by-side

M5.0

Manticore 31.0.7 undoes a 2x COUNT(DISTINCT) slowdown its own collation fix caused.

◆ Current state

Manticore Search's 31.x tags so far are fixes rather than features. 31.0.3 and 31.0.4 were CI and packaging work; 31.0.7 restores string COUNT(DISTINCT) speed after the 29.18.5 collation fix made it 2x slower (1.1 s to 2.4 s on the logs10m benchmark) by calling tolower() per byte. A lookup table replaces the call without changing hash values, so secondary indexes and histograms stay compatible.

◆ Where it's heading

October has been correctness work on string handling (range filters, collation-aware COUNT(DISTINCT)) followed by fixing the performance cost of those fixes. The 31.x line still appears in the feed without notes on what features justified the major version.

◆ Prediction

Expect more 31.0.x patches in this vein. What new capability defines 31.x remains unclear from these entries.

5.0

NATS 2.15.2 closes auth-callout and leafnode ACL gaps on both supported lines.

◆ Current state

NATS shipped 2.15.2 and 2.14.9 together on Oct 26, the first patches since 2.15.1 went final. Both carry the same fixes: auth callout now respects allowed connection types, leafnode ACLs no longer implicitly allow $MQTT.> permissions, OCSP responses are bound to the certificate serial, and restored v1 snapshots are bounds-checked. Both also move to Go builds that distrust eMudhra intermediates.

◆ Where it's heading

After 2.15's desired-state metalayer, the release stream has turned to hardening: two rounds of metalayer data-safety fixes in 2.15.1, now a batch of authorization and certificate-validation fixes. Every 2.15 patch is mirrored to 2.14, so the project is carrying two lines in parallel while 2.15 adoption grows.

◆ Prediction

Expect paired 2.15.3 / 2.14.10 candidates within a few weeks, continuing the mirrored cadence. The entries don't show when 2.14 support ends.
