What is NetBird?
NetBird's second v0.82 candidate keeps the MySQL removal and deprecates Rosenpass.
NetBird is preparing v0.82 as a breaking release for self-hosters. Both candidates remove MySQL, require a migration to PostgreSQL, and move reverse-proxy access logs to their own store. rc.2 adds a Rosenpass deprecation notice with a replacement said to be in final testing, and tightens the SSH server: the root-login setting now applies to uid 0, and path-bearing locale, TERM and TZ values from clients are refused.
What is Novu?
Novu makes its workflows controllable by AI agents and by code, not just dashboards.
Novu's recent arc moves notification workflows out of a single editing surface. November introduced Contexts for multi-tenant scoping, January shipped Subscriptions plus a React Subscription component, April let any step run in Custom Code mode with CLI publishing, and the Novu MCP Server went GA in late April with 20+ tools covering subscribers, triggering, cancellation, and integrations. Slack chat is in private beta.

NetBird
5.0INFRA · APIS
NetBird's second v0.82 candidate keeps the MySQL removal and deprecates Rosenpass.
◆ Current state
NetBird is preparing v0.82 as a breaking release for self-hosters.
◆ Where it's heading
After v0.81 focused on device trust through certificate posture checks, v0.82 is about the management plane's storage and on hardening the built-in SSH server. Deprecating Rosenpass signals a change in how NetBird approaches post-quantum key exchange, though the entries do not name the replacement.
◆ Prediction
Expect v0.82.0 final with the MySQL removal intact, and a later release introducing the Rosenpass replacement.
Novu
2.1INFRA · APIS
Novu makes its workflows controllable by AI agents and by code, not just dashboards.
◆ Current state
Novu's recent arc moves notification workflows out of a single editing surface.
◆ Where it's heading
Novu is positioning as a notification platform an AI agent can drive end-to-end and a developer can wire from code, with the dashboard becoming optional. The MCP Server GA codifies that pitch publicly. Expect more tools exposed over MCP and continued depth on tenant scoping, since multi-tenant SaaS is the main buyer.
◆ Prediction
The next directional move likely formalizes agent-built workflows as first-class artifacts with versioning and approval, so AI-authored notifications can survive review. Slack and other chat integrations should leave beta and join the standard provider list.
