What is string2path?

A Rust-backed glyph-to-path converter swapped font engines and picked up variable fonts.

string2path turns text rendered in a font into data frames of path, fill or stroke coordinates that R can plot directly. The 0.3.0 release migrated the underlying Rust stack to fontique and skrifa, which brought variable font support and let font_weight accept numeric values, at the cost of dropping WASM. The 0.3.1 patch that followed is entirely build fixes for Intel macOS and link-time optimization flags.

What is Swagger UI?

Swagger UI's release stream is an accessibility rewrite wrapped in dependency bumps

Swagger UI publishes small, frequent patch releases, most of which are dependency bumps to swagger-client, axios, dompurify and immutable. The exception is a sustained accessibility effort: v5.32.13 landed seven a11y fixes in one release — skip-to-operations links, banner and main landmarks, keyboard dismissal of the authorization popup, Windows High Contrast Mode visibility — and v5.32.14 continues it with accessible button names and a declared dark colour-scheme for native browser controls.

string2path vs Swagger UI: editorial side-by-side

S0.0

A Rust-backed glyph-to-path converter swapped font engines and picked up variable fonts.

◆ Current state

string2path turns text rendered in a font into data frames of path, fill or stroke coordinates that R can plot directly.

◆ Where it's heading

Most of this package's release history is the cost of shipping Rust through CRAN — ARM Linux build errors, crate updates, deployment target mismatches on M1, installations without shared libraries, and repository policy compliance. The feature work that does land tracks font technology rather than R-side API design: partial COLRv1 color emoji in 0.2.0, variable fonts in 0.3.0. The maintainer is also candid about correcting earlier mistakes, having removed a path_id column after concluding its calculation had never been right.

◆ Prediction

Expect the skrifa migration to keep paying out in font format coverage, with COLRv1 clip and layer composition the obvious gap now that a more capable backend is in place.

S5.0

Swagger UI's release stream is an accessibility rewrite wrapped in dependency bumps

◆ Current state

Swagger UI publishes small, frequent patch releases, most of which are dependency bumps to swagger-client, axios, dompurify and immutable. The exception is a sustained accessibility effort: v5.32.13 landed seven a11y fixes in one release — skip-to-operations links, banner and main landmarks, keyboard dismissal of the authorization popup, Windows High Contrast Mode visibility — and v5.32.14 continues it with accessible button names and a declared dark colour-scheme for native browser controls.

◆ Where it's heading

The accessibility work is the only thread in this feed with any continuity, and it is broad rather than cosmetic: landmarks, keyboard operation, contrast modes and assistive-technology naming are the categories an audit produces, not the ones individual users report. Everything else is maintenance. Notably, most of these fixes carry external contributor credits, which suggests the effort is community-driven rather than a roadmap item.

◆ Prediction

Expect the accessibility pass to keep working through the remaining interactive components, still arriving as patch releases between routine dependency bumps.
