What is InfluxDB?

InfluxDB 3.12 brings GA auth and RBAC, then patches lost-write bugs within two weeks.

InfluxDB 3.12.0 made user authentication and role-based access control generally available in Enterprise, added distributed compaction in beta and per-database schema enforcement, and sped up bulk import; it also writes a catalog record that 3.11 can't read, so rollback needs a backup. 3.12.1 and 3.11.7 followed with fixes for a catalog that failed to load after upgrade and for acknowledged writes lost after a forced snapshot and restart. 3.11.5 had introduced the age-based snapshot trigger that exposed that race.

What is OpenPanel?

OpenPanel tags three more note-free builds in one evening, reaching 3.16.4.

OpenPanel tagged 3.16.2, 3.16.3 and 3.16.4 within about 80 minutes on October 27, after 3.16.1 the day before. Every entry is a build of main for supporters, installed with openpanel upgrade --supporter, and none carries release notes; public releases come from a separate self-hosting tag.

I
InfluxDB
ANALYTICS
5.0

InfluxDB 3.12 brings GA auth and RBAC, then patches lost-write bugs within two weeks.

◆ Current state

InfluxDB 3.12.0 made user authentication and role-based access control generally available in Enterprise, added distributed compaction in beta and per-database schema enforcement, and sped up bulk import; it also writes a catalog record that 3.11 can't read, so rollback needs a backup. 3.12.1 and 3.11.7 followed with fixes for a catalog that failed to load after upgrade and for acknowledged writes lost after a forced snapshot and restart. 3.11.5 had introduced the age-based snapshot trigger that exposed that race.

◆ Where it's heading

After months of data-correctness patching, InfluxDB 3 is shipping enterprise features again: access control, schema enforcement and scale-out compaction. The patch lines still carry serious storage-layer fixes, including lost acknowledged writes and overwrite ordering, so correctness work hasn't finished. Two lines, 3.11 and 3.12, now get the same fixes in parallel.

◆ Prediction

Expect distributed compaction to move toward GA and further 3.12.x patches for upgrade and snapshot edge cases. The entries don't show when 3.11 stops receiving backports.

ANALYTICS
5.0

OpenPanel tags three more note-free builds in one evening, reaching 3.16.4.

◆ Current state

OpenPanel tagged 3.16.2, 3.16.3 and 3.16.4 within about 80 minutes on October 27, after 3.16.1 the day before. Every entry is a build of main for supporters, installed with openpanel upgrade --supporter, and none carries release notes; public releases come from a separate self-hosting tag.

◆ Where it's heading

The 3.x line has climbed from 3.0.0 to 3.16.4 in under two weeks, with each bump published as a bare build. The cadence shows active development, but the feed gives no way to see what changed or which builds matter.

◆ Prediction

Expect more note-free supporter builds; a public self-hosting release with notes is the first point where the content of 3.x becomes visible.
