Corteza vs Phorest: at a glance
What is Corteza?
Corteza 2026.9.0 goes final after a week of single-fix candidates.
Corteza shipped 2026.9.0 on October 19, closing a run of release candidates that each fixed one edge: MySQL 8 cast checks in rc.4, deny rules in permission reports in rc.5 and MySQL-compatible reminder timestamps in rc.6. The release entry only links to the 2026.9 changelog. Before this, the feed was a slow patch train on the 2024.9 line, ending at 2024.9.10 in late August.
What is Phorest?
Phorest keeps handing salon owners the settings they used to phone support about
Phorest is salon and clinic management software shipping small, well-scoped changes every week or two, written in the voice of the front desk. The recent run is dominated by giving owners control they previously had to request: adding product brands without contacting Phorest, per-staff-per-service pricing, per-staff online booking visibility, and finer permissions on who may edit service versus retail prices. Around that sit operational tools like geofenced clock-in on the mobile app.

◆ Current state
Corteza shipped 2026.9.0 on October 19, closing a run of release candidates that each fixed one edge: MySQL 8 cast checks in rc.4, deny rules in permission reports in rc.5 and MySQL-compatible reminder timestamps in rc.6. The release entry only links to the 2026.9 changelog. Before this, the feed was a slow patch train on the 2024.9 line, ending at 2024.9.10 in late August.
◆ Where it's heading
The jump from 2024.9 to 2026.9 opens a new major line after two years on the old one. Two of the final three fixes targeted MySQL, which suggests the release was validated across database backends. What the new line adds for users still isn't visible in the feed.
◆ Prediction
Expect 2026.9.x patch releases to follow the same pattern as 2024.9, with occasional fixes over months. Whether 2024.9 keeps receiving patches is unclear from the entries.
Phorest

Phorest keeps handing salon owners the settings they used to phone support about
◆ Current state
Phorest is salon and clinic management software shipping small, well-scoped changes every week or two, written in the voice of the front desk.
◆ Where it's heading
The through-line is decentralising configuration to the salon and making the booking model match how these businesses actually run. Nearly every recent release either removes a support ticket or lets one staff member be treated differently from another — different price, different online availability, different qualifications. The multi-service booking flow extends the same thinking to the client-facing side, where a visit involving two practitioners was previously modelled as an edge case.
◆ Prediction
Per-staff settings have now landed for price, online visibility and qualifications separately; the obvious next step is a single staff-level view that shows all three together, since the release notes already admit owners are hopping between screens to check them.
