What is Joplin?

Joplin Cloud AI runs on Mistral's EU endpoint with zero data retention.

Joplin added AI in 3.7 (chat, semantic search, MCP), all opt-in. Its latest post names the provider behind Joplin Cloud AI: Mistral AI, called through its EU regional endpoint with Zero Data Retention enabled, no training on user content, and coverage under Mistral's GDPR data processing addendum. Feature releases otherwise arrive roughly every four months.

What is Wiki.js?

Wiki.js 3.0 beta ships an MCP server so AI agents can work against the wiki directly.

Wiki.js 3.0 is still a beta not meant for production, but beta.705 adds a built-in MCP server, refined personal access token scopes, page lifecycle rules with page ownership, a feedback board where reviewers manage ideas, and link completion in the markdown editor. Recent betas added live notes, math, access tokens, SCIM and Excalidraw collaboration.

Joplin Cloud AI runs on Mistral's EU endpoint with zero data retention.

◆ Current state

Joplin added AI in 3.7 (chat, semantic search, MCP), all opt-in. Its latest post names the provider behind Joplin Cloud AI: Mistral AI, called through its EU regional endpoint with Zero Data Retention enabled, no training on user content, and coverage under Mistral's GDPR data processing addendum. Feature releases otherwise arrive roughly every four months.

◆ Where it's heading

Since 3.7, Joplin's communication has been about privacy rather than new AI capability: a general statement in September, now concrete vendor and data-residency commitments. That fits its positioning as the privacy-first notes app (warrant canary, preload on the HMD Terra M secure device), with the hosted Cloud as the managed AI path.

◆ Prediction

The 3.x cadence (3.5 in January, 3.6 in May, 3.7 in August) points to Joplin 3.8 around December or January, likely extending the AI features within these privacy limits.

Wiki.js 3.0 beta ships an MCP server so AI agents can work against the wiki directly.

◆ Current state

Wiki.js 3.0 is still a beta not meant for production, but beta.705 adds a built-in MCP server, refined personal access token scopes, page lifecycle rules with page ownership, a feedback board where reviewers manage ideas, and link completion in the markdown editor. Recent betas added live notes, math, access tokens, SCIM and Excalidraw collaboration.

◆ Where it's heading

Each beta adds a piece that larger teams need: SSO and SCIM, governance through ownership and lifecycle rules, and now machine access through MCP and scoped tokens. 3.0 is becoming an AI-accessible knowledge base with enterprise controls rather than a straight successor to 2.x.

◆ Prediction

Expect MCP tools to be tied to the new PAT scopes and page rules, and the beta cadence to keep adding governance features before a release candidate.
